Respite Services
Roy Smith, founder of PCS, and his wife Jan have a son with severe disabilities. They understand not only the emotional and physical drain that comes along with caring for a special needs child, but also the importance of getting time away—which is exactly what our Respite Care program does.
Respite Care is a short-term service that provides families with the support they need to maintain their children with special needs at home. A respite care worker with mental health and behavior management training works with the child for a specified number of prescribed hours per week so parents can get the break they so desperately need.
The PCS Respite Program is provided during the day, evenings, and on weekends. It is available to individuals up to age 21 who have behavioral difficulties.
Families may benefit from Respite Services in the following ways:
- Temporary relief to primary caregivers
- Prevention of “burnout” and family disintegration which are common among families with a special needs child
- Time away which can be spent with other children
- Assistance with leisurely tasks such as constructive play or outdoor activities
- Assistance with dependent tasks like feeding and diapering
